FALL IN LOVE WITH CASANOVA

FALL IN LOVE WITH CASANOVA

Giacomo Casanova was an Italian man adored by many women in his time. He was the world's greatest romancer, one that had ladies swooning over him and his offering of love. He was the pre-modern day icon of everything romantic and whimsical.

Today his name appears in a casual Italian restaurant in White Plains, Quezon City called GRAN CAFFE CASANOVA. It's practically a small piece of Italy on Philippine soil, what with the authentic Italian cuisine and slice of Italian culture this new romantic, gastronomic haven offers.

The place boasts of a choice to dine al fresco in a quiet environment surrounded by trees, open spaces, and an overlooking view of the metro's skyline under the twinkling stars – or inside the the quaint shop where the food is prepared with dedication and passion that the Italians are so much known for. GRAN CAFFE CASANOVA is the perfect place to dine with the liberty and semi-privacy to enjoy the food, music and very romantic ambiance that the restaurant always exudes.

But essential to the restaurant's Italian authenticity is the cuisine: serving after serving of appetizers, soups, salad, pasta, risotto and desserts that seem to paint a picture of Venice, Milan and Rome with every mouthful.

Begin your delectable journey with your choice of antipasti, like Gamberoni in Coppa Con Cocomero E Eneto, a prawn cocktail served in a wide cup with watermelon and dill mayonnaise. For the strict vegetarian, a plate of Involtini Vegetali alle due Salse, a combination of grilled vegetables served with pesto and sun dried tomato sauce, will do wonders for whetting your appetite.

After the soup and salad, try their home specials-those that they guarantee you can't find anywhere else-like the Papardelle Nere al Granchio, a home-made squid-ink colored pasta with crab meat in olive oil and white wine, or the Trancio di Tonno con Pepperoni e Mentuccia, which is a chunky piece of yellow fin tuna sauteed in olive oil and served with minted grilled bell peppers and onionade. Guaranteed to elicit ooooh's and aaaah's!

Take your fill of pizza, seafood and steak specials – the night is yours for the taking. Afterwards, delight yourself in dessert such as the classic Panna Cotta and Tiramisu, Oreo spin drinks, or choose between coffee and liquor as a nightcap. The bar offers a wide array of premium Italian wines, too.

GRAN CAFFE CASANOVA Ristorante Italiano also offers Healthy-Hearty Merienda Set Meals and Happy Hour from 3PM to 7PM..Business hours is from 11:00 AM until 11:00 PM but hours are extended on weekends for your dining pleasure and is located at the Clubhouse of Corinthian Hills along Temple Drive in Quezon City ( near White Plains ). Ms Earth 2007 Cocktail night at Gran Caffe Casanova

Nov 7. – Cocktail party for Ms Earth 2007 delegates last Nov 6, 8-12mn at Gran Caffe Casanova Ristorante Italiano

We hosted around 60 Ms Earth 2007 delegates at the Gran Caffe Casanova Ristorante Italiano last night. As usual, I had a glass of wine in my hand the whole night starting at 7:00pm… the time my good friend Ernie arrived. There were so many beautiful ladies! And that’s an understatement ;) I’ve never been in a venue with that many beautiful ladies representing their own countries for their beauty, talent and wit before. Even a friend who is very in love with his girlfriend couldn’t stop himself from staring and being smitten by these ladies especially Nanu (Ms. Nepal) and Ms. Sweden.

Ms. Brazil is very tall and beautiful…so stunning. Most men stayed away from her because they looked like dwarfs standing next to her…hehehe :)

Later that evening, some ladies jammed with the bands. Ms Earth 2006 winner Ms Hil Hernandez entertained us with her Chilean rendition of Somos Novios (popularized by Andrea Bocelli and Christina Aguilera) .Our favorite, Bernadette, who is representing Italy, sang a Bono song …I couldn’t remember the title…sorry. She really has a nice voice too. Heard she sang a Cher song during their talent night…and she did it so well. She is really very talented. She speaks fluent English… which is rare for Italians who has never traveled outside of Italy before…she will be a lawyer in a few months ... and she’s one of the top contenders for Ms Earth 2007 who would really like to help save the world from Global warming. Wow ...that’s real beauty with a cause.

At 12:20am, all the candidates hopped into their respective buses to go back to their hotel and rest. The competition is just a few days away. They were all getting tensed, restless and tired. We were told that they just instantly switch back to normal the moment they are in their buses, feet hung or up on their chairs and seat in whatever position they like just so they could immediately be comfortable.

When all the delegates and their guests have left, I stayed with 4 of my “alcoholic friends” for more booze. We finished before 2 am. I had too much wine again…what’s new? ;) Then I remembered I was going to go on a 4 day Northern Luzon road trip with my siblings the following day and we had to leave at 6:30 since my Ford Everest’s color coding day is Wednesday. Oh no! And I am the first leg driver. I drank lots of Gatorade before I finally went to bed at 2:30am.
